Abstract

This article aims to methodically describe the structuring of a questionnaire designed to observe the Brazilian social movement #Nem1PraTrás, composed of civil society actors who organised to combat school dropout in Brazil between 2019 and 2023. The tool seeks to collect data for investigating the movement and the formation of links within the network. As part of this objective, the questionnaire is incorporated into an inter-method triangulation strategy for the purposes of demographic, behavioural, and attitudinal description to aid the understanding of cause-related engagement and network behaviour. The emphasis on detailing the development and use of this methodological tool is justified by the need for literature on the application of questionnaires in predominantly qualitative research within the social sciences, particularly in multimodal studies of social networks in Communication Studies. Drawing on the theoretical foundations, this article addresses the research question: how can a network be mapped through the use of a questionnaire? The article begins by outlining the criteria for sample definition, followed by a detailed explanation of the questionnaire’s sections and question formulation, the selection of analytical instruments, and finally, the management and storage of data. This description reflects the effort to understand mobilisation as a case study and suggests that similar action should be undertaken in support of education in Portugal, with the findings being essential for structuring the next stage of the investigation.
