The core role of content analysis in a multiple case study supported by webQDA: How to assess the perception of teachers and peer teacher students regarding participation in peer learning projects

Abstract
The focus of this study is predominantly methodological and results from a reflection on the role of the data collection and data analysis techniques and of the Computer-Assisted Qualitative-Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS) chosen for a multiple case study involving five peer learning projects, developed in five Portuguese educational institutions. This case study is part of the preliminary research stage of a project implemented under Educational Design Research. Despite its mixed nature, this case study is predominantly qualitative, and is aimed at assessing the perceptions of teachers and peer teacher students regarding participation in those projects and identifying similarities/divergent opinions on their positions by means of a semi-structured interview and a survey by questionnaire. In this realm, content analysis, as a data analysis technique, and the support of qualitative data analysis software WebQDA were fundamental for the accomplishment of the purposes of the study, which substantiates the relevance found in promoting reflection on the role of both elements in the study. It is expected that the outcomes of the study may contribute to promoting the relevance of qualitative research, as a paradigm that offers methodological solutions that are in line with the demands of information society.
