Abstract
The article addresses a section of research that considers walking in the urban space and the creation of visiting routes as procedures for data production in a study on the city. This perspective was undertaken by the Study and Research Group on Education in the City and Humanities (Gepech) composed of students and professors from the Graduate Program in Humanities Teaching at the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (Ifes), Brazil. As a way of systematizing relevant actions of this investigation, the text discusses six steps that synthesize the procedures adopted. In the sequence, it displays an analysis of teacher training activities as a way of exemplifying the proposed approach. It concludes, based on the data analysed, that walking through the urban space involved in the creation and experience of visiting routes are research procedures that can contribute to the understanding of the modernization processes of cities in the context of the training of Brazilian basic education teachers..
