Abstract

This research considers the analysis of critical thinking integrating the competencies of the citizens of the 21st century that in parallel with the Mexican high school curriculum. The objective of this research was to analyze the topic of relativity in the high school curriculum to promote the development of critical thinking in students, using a qualitative approach to understand the attitudes and experiences of students, considering the research question: how does the discussion forum on a topic of relativity influence the development of critical thinking in students? The qualitative methodology with non-probabilistic sampling by convenience, allowed arbitrarily choosing the students enrolled in the schooled modality in the Physics IV learning unit, considering the conceptual and operational definitions, to later take into account the categories and codes for the analysis of the levels of critical thinking achieved by the students in the discussion forum, the calculation of the ratio proposed by specialists in the subject was made. A triangulation of the nuclear variables: Communication, Learning and Critical Thinking was also made. By way of conclusion, a tendency of students towards critical thinking is observed, highlighting that written communication plays an important role in the construction of knowledge through codes that relate to each other with critical thinking. Students can develop communication and build knowledge, but critical thinking is not necessarily achieved, although there are incentives to develop it.
