Abstract
There is a lack of studies on teaching the qualitative method, despite the growing interest in qualitative research in various fields of knowledge. The literature on this subject is scarce and shows great heterogeneity in educational methodologies. To analyze researchers’ proposals from different areas and nationalities about teaching qualitative research method. Study by means of a focus group with 11 researchers participated from four different countries and from eight different training areas enrolled in a Workshop “Teaching the qualitative research method” held during in 2019 during the 9th Iberic-American Congress on Qualitative Research in Lisbon. They discussed the following themes: pedagogical proposal, course objectives, content, pedagogical resources, teacher skills and bibliographies, among others. Three main points were highlighted as teaching guidelines: constructivism as a pedagogical proposal; epistemology as mandatory content rendered suitable for the target audience; and flexibility, theoretical knowledge and practical experience in qualitative research as essential skills of the teacher. The pedagogical proposal evidenced is close to the paradigmatic conception of teaching in which the theoretical foundations that support science are discussed and qualitative research is perceived as a craft that is learned in a context of research activities.
