Abstract

Chronic pain is characterized by being a disease that affects the elderly person and their family in its various dimensions, exposing them to risks that can jeopardize their health, altering their family and social context and prompting a change in style. of life. The development of nursing interventions, based on scientific knowledge and which emphasize the proactive involvement of participants, allows us to outline strategies that help to deal with their situation, and contribute to the promotion of care environments that optimize their participation in their care. To understand the perception of elderly people with chronic pain, who undergo invasive procedures to control pain, in a Multidisciplinary Pain Center. Qualitative descriptive study, using semi-structured interviews and content analysis. The interviews were carried out with a group of elderly people, aged 65 or over, undergoing invasive procedures to control chronic pain. After analyzing the content of the interviews, carried out with 8 elderly people, it was found that they felt supported by the healthcare team during the invasive procedure and that they valued the fact that they were accompanied and supported by their family member; the lack of information about the procedure, before it takes place, is reported by elderly people as a threat, which makes it difficult to manage pain and expectations regarding it; The information needs most mentioned by elderly people were those related to the effects of the procedure and the care to be taken at home. The present study demonstrated that, from the perspective of elderly people, for the appropriate resolution of chronic pain, it is important that they are informed and understand the procedures to which they will be subjected. Knowledge of the participants' experience allowed us to understand which factors contribute to information management, namely by delivering the information leaflet about the procedure, prior to the intervention, and to pain management, through carrying out a nursing teleconsultation with aimed at monitoring the elderly person and family after the invasive procedure. Partnership nursing interventions allow the elderly person and their family to be active participants in the care provided to them, with knowledge, autonomy and dignity, and contribute to the improvement of the care provided, continuing a friendly and facilitating context of care. healthy aging.
