PERCEPTION OF PROFESSIONALS ON CARE IN HIGH-RISK MATERNITY: CHALLENGES OF COMPREHENSIVENESS

Abstract
The implementation of health practices, structured by comprehensiveness, has proven to be a challenge that needs investigation to understand its determinants so they can be overcome. The National Policy for Hospital Care (PNAH) and the Improvement and Innovation in Care and Teaching in Obstetrics and Neonatology Project (Ápice On) aim to enhance the role of training institutions, teaching hospitals, and the Ministry of Health as cooperative agents in obstetric and neonatal care, providing formative practices in care and management based on scientific evidence, human rights, and principles of humanization, to create impact across the service network. To analyze how the hospital team has carried out the care process for pregnant women and mothers in a maternity ward in the interior of the State of São Paulo. A qualitative research conducted in a public teaching hospital in the central-western region of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 maternity professionals, systematized by thematic content analysis, addressing the understanding of the care process and its relationship with the principles of comprehensiveness and co-management in health. The thematic analysis revealed that the care process is supported by the biomedical model, highlighting gaps in comprehensive care for pregnant women and postpartum mothers. It was identified that the hospital faces high demand for admissions and consultations. There are challenges in implementing a comprehensive approach within the health care model, and the Ápice On Project seeks to address these challenges by promoting interdisciplinary teamwork, with the proposal for ongoing health education aimed at a more humanized and comprehensive approach to care. The promotion of interdisciplinary teams is proposed through the implementation of a management group as a strategy to reorganize care and training, using a co-management model to collectively build proposals for change.
