Abstract
This article presents the results of a teaching innovation project that employed art as a pedagogical tool in the teaching of human sexuality to university students majoring in Clinical Psychology at a university in Ecuador. The research objective was to analyze the symbolic and visual content of the artworks created by Clinical Psychology students. A qualitative methodology was applied, based on visual content analysis of 9 selected artworks out of a total of 25. The artistic techniques used by the students included oil on canvas, acrylic, and photography. The results focused on how the students artistically and creatively represented themes such as attachment, sexual identity, gender roles, romantic love, and the human sexual response. The artworks reflected the incorporation of various social and cultural elements, offering a different perspective on human sexuality. The students freely and spontaneously expressed through their works what they think and feel about sexuality throughout the life cycle. We conclude that art is an innovative pedagogical tool for educating about sexuality in the university context and that through the artistic techniques developed, the students achieved a greater awareness and respect for the dimensions that underpin sexuality. Furthermore, the innovation project highlights the importance of applying participatory methodologies, fostering holistic learning that values human dignity, promotes mutual respect, and enhances psycho-sexual well-being.
